{"id":1012,"date":"2015-06-14T09:15:35","date_gmt":"2015-06-14T09:15:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newarkheritagebarge.com\/?p=1012"},"modified":"2015-06-14T09:15:35","modified_gmt":"2015-06-14T09:15:35","slug":"waterways-heritage-day-saturday-27-june-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.newarkheritagebarge.com\/?p=1012","title":{"rendered":"Waterways Heritage Day, Saturday 27 June 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to a further generous award by the Arts &amp; Humanities Research<br \/>\nCouncil, under its Connected Communities Programme, to the<br \/>\nDepartment of History at The University of Nottingham, the University<br \/>\nand Newark Heritage Barge are pleased to present a Waterways<br \/>\nHeritage Day on Saturday 27 June 2015. This will showcase some of the<br \/>\nhistorical research and practical conservation currently in progress on<br \/>\nthe rivers and canals of the East Midlands.<br \/>\nThe day school forms part of the AHRC\u2019s Connected Communities<br \/>\nFestival, a national programme of events intended to strengthen links<br \/>\nbetween universities and local communities.<br \/>\nAfter a series of talks in the morning, there will be a guided walk along<br \/>\nthe river in the afternoon. This will mark the launch of Newark Heritage<br \/>\nBarge\u2019s new \u2018Trail\u2019, intended to bring out for both local people and<br \/>\nvisitors the rich waterside heritage of the town.<br \/>\nAlongside the talks and the walk, all the waterways heritage<br \/>\norganisations in the East Midlands and neighbouring regions are being<br \/>\ninvited to bring along displays of their work and publications to sell, so<br \/>\nthere will be an opportunity to see what is going on over a large area of<br \/>\neastern England.<br \/>\nAnyone interested in waterways history, or the local history of Trentside<br \/>\nor canalside communities, is very welcome to come to this event, which<br \/>\nwill be held at Staythorpe Electricity Sports &amp; Social Club, King\u2019s Road,<br \/>\nNewark NG24 1EW. The club is in the centre of Newark, within walking<br \/>\ndistance of the bus station, both railway stations, and the main carparks.<br \/>\nThere is limited waiting outside the club to unload display<br \/>\nmaterial, but not longer-term parking.<br \/>\nThere is no charge for the day school, but we do need to know how<br \/>\nmany people are coming.
