60th Birthday at the Newark Festival 2013

Preparation for visitors to the barge

Preparation for visitors to the barge

The trustees of our newly formed CIO (Charity Incorporated Organisation) certainly had a lot to organise with the 60th Anniversary of Leicester Trader coinciding with participation in the Newark Festival from 14th-16th June 2013.

With the help of Newark Marina’s tug Friar Tuck we moved her from her normal moorings at 24 Weavers through the lock to her berth on the waterfront of Newark Castle on the evening of the 13th June.

The morning of the 14th June was spent on preparation for visitors over the festival, featuring badgemaking for the junior visitors as well as the “name the mannekin” competition for our two new additions and the ever popular tombola.  Margi’s birthday cake was well received, whilst the weather had Les fashioning modifications to the entrance to keep visitors dry!

The afternoon visit by Councillor Tony Roberts to celebrate our 60th birthday with cake and tea was well supported, and Margi’s cake tasted as good as it looked!

Saturday was busy day for visitors to the barge, and this continued into Sunday, the final day of the festival. Friday afternoon we participated in the Carnival parade through Newark and before we knew it the tug Friar Tuck had returned to take the Trader back to her moorings at the Weavers.

Overall a very successful 3 days activities highlighting our project to Newark residents and generating funds for our worthy cause. Images below! Our sincere thanks to our visitors and supporters who made this possible
